For seventeen years we’ve lived in Spain. That’s seventeen years exploring all seventeen regions. We’ve visited the most beautiful villages and enjoyed the amazing cuisine that each area has to offer. I must have eaten thousands of meals and tasted hundreds of different wines. One morning, I thought, why not put all this knowledge in writing!

Six years later, I’m 18 kilos heavier, my shorts don’t fit and the doctor has just given me a right bollocking! So it’s salads and water for me for the foreseeable future. Luckily enough, I have enough notes for at least six books. Now starts the difficult part; putting this mountain of information together in a way that anyone would find interesting.

This year alone, we’ve visited Bilbao and tasted Marmitako, a typical Basque tuna and potato stew containing, peppers, onions, tomato sauce, garlic, olive oil, paprika and parsley. It was absolutely delicious! Highly recommended.

In Oviedo, we demolished Cachopos, veal fillets stuffed with local cheeses and ham then coated in egg, breadcrumbs and deep-fried. All washed down, obviously, with a glass or two of natural Asturian Sidra. Does it really get any better!

Futher along the coast in Galicia, we stopped at the gorgeous village of Combarro. We strolled through its medieval streets and quaffed a few bottles of Albariño, the local wine. Obviously, we had to try the Pulpo a la Gallega (well, to be honest, anyone that has read any of my books already knows that I don’t eat sea monsters, so I ordered a steak). If you like seafood, then this is the one for you!

Anyway, to cut a long story short, I’ve lost 16kg since Christmas, I’ve written 40 pages of the new book (another 200 to go) and in September we’re off down south to Murcia to see what delights I can find J

We’ve plenty of adventures ahead of us and we’ll be sharing lots of tips & info along the way. So keep reading and feel free to ask any question you like!
