Welcome to Barrow Campsite, Nairn.

Named after the onsite Bronze age Barrow.

An ancient archaeological monument. This monument is locally known as 'Hangman's Cairn' and is an excellent example of a well-preserved Bronze Age Barrow and contemporary surrounding bank. The monument comprises a sub-circular mound, measuring around 25 m in diameter and standing to a height of around 3.3 m. (ancientmonuments.uk). With the opening of the campsite this monument will be immediately accessible to all campsite visitors. In the near future information boards will promote the wide awareness and significance of the history of this monument.

2022 - 2023 winter opening. This coming winter we are opening right through till the 2023 spring season. Bookings can be made as normal through the booking tab on this website. Pitches and facilities will be open as normal until 02.01.2023, then only self contained units will be allowed onsite through till March 2023. We look forward to seeing you soon.

Previous winter months have seen improvements to drainage, the playpark, the bothy and general tree planting. Then this winter has seen changes in layout with hundreds of laurel bushes being planted as future shelter breaks, more tress being planted to the north west of the site and the opening of a ‘nearly wild camping’ area. This area which is sheltered behind a large hill will be dedicated for 4x4 type vehicles looking for a slightly more out of the way peaceful spot while still being within walking distance of the toilet and shower facilities.

Previously, We improved the drainage on the site and are so happy to say that there were no puddles to be seen. Ewan’s work on the excavator has paid off. We purchased a commercial play park for the children with some swings, a slide and a climbing frame. This has proven very popular and is placed on the campsite in a securely fenced off area to keep those little ones safe. The new building, shelter has saved many a drowned camper, brought families together over a game of cards and shared the sunset with shared BBQ’s on long summer nights. The bothy has a south facing terrace overlooking our nature pond and the surrounding hills. There is seating inside and I truly hope this can be a relaxing meeting point for fellow guests. Additional tree planting around the site that will provide shade and improve the beauty of the site overall is an ongoing project.

The campsite had a very positive season in 2021 and guests enjoyed the relative freedom from COVID that an open countryside environment can offer.

All facilities are open and we ask that guests respect COVID distancing and their fellow campers.

We look forward to welcoming you to our site.
